Presentation: Neurocounseling: Bridging the Recovery Gap
Tom Maxon, LIMHP, LADC & Tina Chasek

Neurocounseling is a relatively new approach in addiction treatment that has been shown to be effective for a variety of addiction related issues including recovery management and relapse prevention.  Neurocounseling is based on the fact that behavioral and psychological symptoms have underlying neurological foundations.  Counselors can help clients bridge the gap between brain and behavior by becoming “brain-wise” and using neurocounseling interventions that target recovery and relapse prevention.  This presentation will cover the basics of neurocounseling and highlight two interventions that counselors can use in their practice with clients struggling with addiction.

Tom Maxson has been providing outpatient therapy services since 1999 in the Kearney area. He holds licenses as a LIMHP, LADC as well as a Psychological Assistant. Tom is also credentialed as a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). The SAP allows Tom to provide substance use evaluation for individuals under regulation of the Department of Transportation (DOT).

Tom provides individual and family therapy as well as a variety of evaluations.  Tom’s specialty areas include evaluations, treating co-occurring disorders, individuals involved with the criminal justice system, personality disorders, dialectical behavior therapy and working with individuals that have struggled with previous treatment episodes or providers.

Presentation: Sexual Health in Long Term Committed Couples.
J. Kipp Lanning, LIMHP

Sex therapy requires taking a bio-psycho-social approach that respects the couples privacy and emotional readiness to address sexual issues within the relationship.  Drawing from research and sex education models, the COMMIT model helps structure sex therapy to reduce anxiety, respect autonomy and take a strengths based approach to helping couples achieve sexual health.

J. Kipp Lanning has over 20 years experience working as a sex advocate, educator, and therapist.  Since 2008 he has been providing mental health therapy to individuals and couples both inpatient and outpatient settings addressing sexual dysfunction within relationships including ED, PE, DE, painful sex, low libido / sexless marriages, pornography and affair recovery.
