Madeleine Moore, LIMHP Presents: Cocoa the Counselor: Utilizing Therapy Dogs in the Mental Health Field (LIVE presentation by Zoom)
At Creighton University, we have utilized a therapy dog in Student Counseling for the past 5 years and each year our therapy dog has helped us grow our outreach efforts, connect with students, destigmatize mental illness, educate about resources, and deepen the therapeutic experience. Her name is Cocoa and she is a 6 year old chocolate lab and a Creighton celebrity. She is on campus daily as she attends events, lounges in the clinic's waiting room, holds "office hours", joins in individual and group therapy sessions, and has a significant online presence @cocoathecounselor on Instagram, where she posts (or more aptly, I post) weekly about anything from self-compassion to wellness to mindfulness practice. In this presentation, I will discuss the many ways in which therapy dogs can be useful in the mental health field, both inside and outside of a counseling session.
This event is postponed and is rescheduled to be presented LIVE via Zoom on Friday, January 13th, at noon. You must attend at this time to receive the CE credit.
